  • The City's contractor will be performing tree maintenance work at the pickleball courts located at Brengle Terrace Park. This will require closing of courts #4 and #6 for the day.

Caltrans SR-78 Asset Management Project

Please note that the SR-78 project is overseen by Caltrans and not by the City of Vista, this includes the Mar Vista overpass.

Engineering Infrastruce Projects

  • Street Rehabilitation Project 2025
    This project will grind and overlay approximately 75 street sections, including major arterials such as E. Vista Way, W. Vista Way, N. Melrose Drive, S. Melrose Drive, and Shadowridge Drive. Construction will begin in September 2025 and is expected to finish in Spring 2026.
  • Asphalt Speed Bump Project
    Asphalt speed bumps are installed as needed, with each location requiring City Council approval. The goal is to calm traffic and improve neighborhood safety.
  • Michigan Avenue Parking Lot
    A new public parking lot is planned for Michigan Avenue to serve the downtown area. The project will add approximately 28 new parking stalls. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and be completed by December 2025.
  • Wave Waterpark
    The competition pool will be replastered, and minor concrete deck replacements will be made around the perimeter. Work is expected to take place in fall 2026.
  • Senior Center Restroom & Patio Shade Improvements
    The Azalea Building restroom at the Senior Center will be remodeled, and large shade umbrellas will be installed in front of the Park Terrace Building. Construction is scheduled for Winter 2025 and will last several months.
  • Three New Traffic Signals
    New signals will be installed at:
    E. Vista Way and Franklin Lane
    N. Melrose Drive and Ascot Drive
    S. Melrose Drive and Dawson Drive
    Construction will begin in September 2025 and continue through February 2026.
  • Vista Village at W. Vista Way Pedestrian Crossing Improvements
    This project will upgrade the traffic signal, add a sidewalk pop-out, and install a high-visibility crosswalk. Construction begins in September 2025.
  • Cedar Road at W. Vista Way Pedestrian & Bus Stop Improvements
    New sidewalks will be built on Cedar Drive and an improved bus stop will be installed along W. Vista Way. Construction is scheduled to start in September 2025, concurrent with the Vista Village pedestrian improvements.
  • Traffic Signal Interconnect Project
    Unreliable radio communications at signals on N. Melrose Drive, N. Emerald Drive, and Poinsettia Avenue will be replaced with fiber optic cables. Construction will begin in Fall 2025 and last about five months.
  • E. Indian Rock Road Sidewalk Project
    A new sidewalk will be installed along the west side of E. Indian Rock across from Nicole Drive. Work will begin in November 2025 and continue into Spring 2026.
  • E. Vista Way Raised Medians
    Raised medians are proposed between Williamston Street and Taylor Street, funded by a Federal Traffic Safety Grant. The medians will restrict left turns from driveways with a history of accidents. Design work will begin by the end of 2025.
  • S. Santa Fe Avenue Pedestrian Improvements
    Four uncontrolled crosswalks between Eucalyptus Avenue and Pala Vista Drive will be upgraded with pedestrian push-button lighted signs. Staff are preparing a construction contract for installation.
  • Accessible Pedestrian Signal System Upgrade 2025
    Accessible pedestrian signals are planned for the following intersections:
    S. Santa Fe Avenue at Civic Center Drive
    S. Santa Fe Avenue at Postal Way
    E. Vista Way at Vista Village Drive
    E. Vista Way at Townsite Drive
    E. Vista Way at Anza Avenue
    N. Santa Fe Avenue at Bobier Drive
    A construction contract is being prepared.
  • Wildwood Park Restroom
    The existing restroom will be demolished and replaced with a new facility. Construction is scheduled for Spring 2026.
  • Luz Duran Park Improvements
    A new restroom will be added near the former Sheriff’s Substation, along with minor park upgrades. Construction is planned for Winter 2025.
  • Solar Streetlights
    Eighty-four solar-powered streetlights will be installed throughout the city in locations where lighting is needed. Installation is expected in Spring 2026.
