Community Improvement Projects Update: A Year of Enhancements Ahead
The City of Vista is embarking on several community improvement projects to enhance infrastructure, public safety, and residents’ overall quality of life. As we approach the end of 2024, here’s an update on what’s happening across the city, including street improvements, storm drain replacements, and new public amenities.
The City of Vista appreciates residents' patience as we work through these various projects to make our city an even better place to live.
Slurry Seal / Street Rehabilitation Project
The Slurry Seal and Street Rehabilitation project is ongoing and nearing completion. Construction is expected to wrap up by the end of January 2024.
Bobolink Storm Drain Project
Construction on this project will begin on November 4, 2024, and is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2025. This vital project will improve stormwater drainage and reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
Roundabout Projects: Foothill Drive/Oak Drive and Bobier Drive/Calle Jules
Two major intersections will transform with the installation of roundabouts starting on October 7, 2024. The roundabouts will help ease traffic flow and improve safety. Both roundabouts are scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2025.
Sheriff Substation Remodel
The remodel at 986 Vista Village Drive is underway and will be completed by the end of February 2025. The project ensures that the City’s law enforcement continues to operate in a modernized and efficient environment.
Townsite Complete Streets Project
Enhancements under the Townsite Complete Streets Project are in full swing. Designed to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety, the project is expected to be finished by the end of November 2024.
Nevada Avenue / Lemon Avenue Sidewalks and Lighting Project
This project will start on January 6, 2025, and is expected to be completed by September 2025. It will bring much-needed sidewalks and improved lighting to these residential areas.
Michigan Avenue Parking Lot Sidewalk
Construction has commenced on the Michigan Avenue Parking Lot sidewalk, improving pedestrian access. The estimated completion is November 2024.
Protected Bike Lanes and Green Bike Lane Projects
Cyclists in Vista can expect the construction of protected bike lanes and green bike lane markings to start in November 2024 and wrap up by February 2025.
Citywide CMP Storm Drain Replacement Project
This long-term project addresses aging infrastructure by replacing storm drains citywide. Construction is ongoing and expected to continue through November 2025.
Civic Center Solar Project
The Civic Center Public Parking Lot on Alta Vista Drive will be closed from October 7, 2024, to March 2025 to install solar panels that will provide electricity to the Civic Center, resulting in significant cost savings.
Asphalt Speed Bump Project
Asphalt speed bumps are installed as needed, pending City Council approval for each location. They aim to calm traffic and increase neighborhood safety.
