The purpose of the Environmental Commission is to promote and support the City’s climate and environmental responsibility goals and to advise the City Council and the City Manager on matters relating to environmental health, environmental conservation, environmental justice, and environmental sustainability in the City (hereinafter referred to as environmental matters). The Commission’s powers and duties are set forth in Chapter 2.50  of the Vista Municipal Code.

The Commission consists of seven regular members who each serve a four-year term.

Qualifications for Membership

  • Resident of the City of Vista; 
  • 18 years of age.

Meetings

Meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers with the exception of the November and December meetings which will be held the third Wednesday of the month to avoid national holidays and City closures.

Occasionally, meetings are cancelled.  Please click on "Current Meeting Agenda" link below for any cancellation notices. 

Agendas are posted 72 hours in advance of the Environmental Commission meeting.  Minutes are presented to the Environmental Commission for approval at the next regular meeting and are posted after they are approved.

Environmental Commission Workplan

On May 27, 2025, the City Council approved the 2025-2027 Environmental Commission Workplan, which outlines the projects the Commission has chosen to work on for the next two years. 

Any questions from the Workplan can be brought to the commission at a regularly scheduled meeting or sent to Staff Liaison, Cassidy McCarthy.
