National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, through 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.
Vista Fire Rescue encourages residents to take precautions and watch for signs of heat-related illness during periods of extreme heat.
Stay Safe in the Heat
-
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine.
-
Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the hottest part of the day.
-
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and use sunscreen.
-
Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
-
Never leave children, older adults or pets inside a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
-
Check on older adults, neighbors, relatives and others who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat. Make sure they have access to air conditioning, water and transportation to a cooler location if needed.
-
Know the signs of heat-related illness. Heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache and weakness may indicate heat exhaustion. Confusion, fainting, seizures or a very high body temperature may indicate heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately.

Protect Your Pets
-
Keep pets indoors or provide access to shade and plenty of fresh, cool water.
-
Avoid walking pets during the hottest part of the day. Early morning or evening walks are safest.
-
Check pavement temperatures before walking. If the ground is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for your pet’s paws.
-
Never leave an animal unattended in a parked vehicle.
-
Watch for excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting or difficulty breathing. Contact a veterinarian immediately if a pet shows signs of heat illness.
Please take the heat seriously, plan ahead and check on those around you.
