Celebration of Life of former Councilmember Ted Cole

The City of Vista announces with deep respect the passing of former City Councilmember Ted Cole, who died peacefully surrounded by family on Dec. 14, 2025. He was 72.

Cole served the residents of Vista with distinction for eight years on the City Council. First elected in 1990 and reelected in 1994, he was widely respected for his integrity, thoughtfulness, and steadfast commitment to the well-being of the city and its residents. His public service was guided by strong values, a generous spirit, and a sincere desire to serve others.

“Ted Cole served Vista with integrity, humility, and a genuine love for this community,” Mayor John Franklin said. “His eight years on the City Council reflected his strong values, thoughtful leadership, and deep sense of service. But what stands out just as much is that Ted never stopped caring. Even in the final months of his life, he remained civically engaged, attending and participating in City Council meetings as a resident, most recently this past November. That kind of commitment says everything about who he was. Ted leaves behind a legacy of kindness and service that will be remembered and respected by the City of Vista for generations.”

In addition to his public service, Cole was a respected business owner who operated an antibody production facility for 30 years, reflecting his dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic.

Cole was known for his appreciation of nature and life’s simple moments, particularly his daily enjoyment of watching and feeding hummingbirds—an example of his patience, gentleness, and thoughtful outlook on life.

A loving husband for 46 years and a devoted father, Cole is survived by his wife, Vicki, and their son, Pierce, along with many family members and friends who will miss him deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held in January, with additional details to be announced.

Remembered for his kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others, Ted Cole’s legacy of public service and community involvement will be long honored by the City of Vista and all whose lives he touched.
